Featured Mentor:
Katherine Metzger
Rudolf Steiner School of Ann Arbor Class of 2022 alum Katherine Metzger is in her 4th year at Smith College majoring in Quantitative Economics and Portuguese.
As a neurodivergent learner, she felt overwhelmed in her first year of college and wished that she had had better support navigating the myriad of resources available on campus.
Katherine says: “I’m interested in joining the March Mentoring panel because this is something I deeply needed four years ago as I was beginning my college journey – transitioning from a Waldorf school of about 90 students to a college of 2,800 was a difficult adjustment.”
Currently working on a mentorship venture of her own, “Spectrum to Success”, Katherine is building an online mentorship and skill-building platform for autistic students transitioning from high school to college.
On the March 25th panel, Katherine will be speaking to a number of different points, including how to: sift through the many course options and academic pathways; seek out available resources and opportunities early on; move from Waldorf-style to self-directed learning; leverage office hours, tutoring, and other academic resources, and find funding during college.

Toronto Waldorf School Class of 2022 alum Ozzy Amini is in second year honours psychology with a minor in sociology at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU).
Ozzy has learned that one of the best ways to make friends is to actively and enthusiastically volunteer for clubs and organizations both on and off campus. Ozzy’s service work is impressive and diverse, and this has allowed them to develop a broad social circle that will serve as a professional network when it comes time to look for a job.
Taking advantage of health care opportunities in Toronto, Ozzy has found work as a youth advisor for The Knowledge Institute on Child & Youth Mental Health & Addictions, and has picked up a volunteer position at the Information & Privacy Commissioner of Ontario. Ozzy also volunteers as an event coordinator for the Our Kids’ Health Network. They are an active member of the Psychology Student Association at TMU as well as the University’s EDIJ Committee.
In addition, Ozzy has worked in the Computer-Mediated and Interpersonal Communications Lab at TMU, and has developed a strong connection with psychology faculty members. They are already working on setting up a thesis for their fourth year.
As part of the March Mentoring panel, Ozzy is excited to share what they’ve learned about making friends, networking with professors, and seeking opportunities at university. 💪🏻👏🏻😃 #waldorfalum #waldorfalums #waldorfeducation #mentoring #networking @torontowaldorfschool @mahtowo

Now majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Music Engineering, Zachary’s work explores the intersection of sound, materials, and design. Aurora Waldorf School Gr. 8 graduate alum Sawyer Oubre found his passion for telling stories through film. “I didn’t grow up with movies, not as much as other people,” he says, “but I was really obsessed with stories. I really do think that love of stories came from Waldorf.”
After high school and a year at art school, Sawyer found his way onto a film set and picked up a Steadicam for the first time. The Steadicam allows for smooth, moving shots combined with the freedom of a handheld camera and the operator must use body, mind, and creativity as one.
At 28 years old, Sawyer has already built an impressive career around narrative film, even when that means choosing lower-paying indie projects over commercial work. That focus led him to be the Steadicam operator on “Anora”, a small independent film that would go on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2025. We can’t wait to see what you do next! 🎥🎬📽️🎞️🏆 #waldorfalums #waldorfalum #waldorfeducation #steadicam #cinematography @sawyer.oubre @aurorawaldorfschool
