Doug and Carol Hoffman’s lives are a powerful reflection of Adirondack values–hard work, service, and an unwavering belief in the power of opportunity. Together, they’ve built a legacy rooted in a deep love for their community.

Doug, a Saranac Lake native, was raised by a determined single mother who worked her way up to become a comptroller. Inspired by her perseverance, Doug earned his bachelor’s in accounting from SUNY Plattsburgh and his MBA from the University of Connecticut.

Doug founded his own CPA firm in 1977. After retiring as managing partner in 2017, Doug launched Doug Hoffman, CPA, a firm focused on mentoring and coaching other CPA and accounting practices. His goal in this new chapter is to “pay it forward,” helping firms manage, grow, and prosper.

He is a Boy Scout leader, a hospital board member and commander of the local American Legion. Carol, equally committed to her community, has been a dedicated advocate for youth and families through her volunteerism and leadership.

Doug and Carol have found a meaningful connection in SUNY Canton, where they see their own values—resilience, opportunity, and community—reflected in the College’s mission. In honor of Doug’s late mother and their belief in second chances, they established an endowed scholarship to support students who may need just a little extra help to find their way.
