Why I Wanted to Serve on the Alumni Council:
I wanted to serve on the Alumni Council, to see the college provide the incredible educational and community experiences that I received to all students. Those experiences propelled me into a wonderful career and a wonderful family. I feel strongly that alums should support the college not only financially, but through giving time especially to students, such as being mentors, hosting internships, endowing MAPS, recruiting future students, networking with colleagues, serving on advisory committees. I particularly enjoy talking to current students and recent alumni. There is always a connection no matter what year we graduated.
A Quote I Like:
“Nature is the source of all true knowledge.”
―Leonardo da Vinci
“We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”
―Chief Seattle
“Nothing replaces dumb luck.”
―My father
A Little Bit About Me:
I was truly” lucky” to attend Grinnell College. I was on the first women’s athletic team, field hockey. I was active in Student government. I Received an NSF grant to conduct biochemical research. I met many thoughtful engaging people including my husband David Wright ’74. He received a PHD in Limnology, I completed my MD. His post doc and my residency were completed in Minnesota. I joined the Pediatric Faculty at UMN, I became Director of Pediatrics at Shriners Hospital. Teaching and Research were key components of my career.
We loved lakes, loons, and labradors. I spent 12 years coaching soccer for three delightful children.
Other Alumni Involvement: Reunion Planning Committee, Student Mentor, Health Career Mentor
