Evie Oglesby '16

Evie Oglesby ’16, a Denver-based mechanical process engineer, discovered rugby in college and now plays for the Denver Onyx as part of the newly formed Women’s Elite Rugby league.

After graduating from Burroughs, Evie headed west to the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, where she pursued both her academic and athletic interests. A lifelong lover of team sports, Evie sought out a similar sense of camaraderie in college and found it through club rugby — quickly falling in love with a sport she had never played before. Drawing on the discipline, teamwork, and work ethic instilled by her coaches at Burroughs, Evie committed herself to improving every day. Her collegiate rugby career culminated in a DII National Championship appearance during her final season.

After college, Evie began working full time as a mechanical process engineer in Denver, focusing on the design of natural gas pipeline and facility projects. She returned to rugby in 2022 with the Colorado Graywolves, competing at the DI club level and in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), where she helped win back-to-back championships in 2023 and 2024. In 2024, Evie was drafted to play prop for the Denver Onyx in the inaugural season of Women’s Elite Rugby (WER). Her team finished the regular season 9-1 and won the league’s first-ever Legacy Cup — an unforgettable milestone in a sport she’s proud to help grow in the U.S.

“Getting to be a part of the inaugural season was something that is unforgettable for me,” Evie says. “While sometimes it felt as if I was just getting to play higher level rugby with my friends, seeing the sport grow firsthand was truly special. Rugby is definitely growing in the States and I am very excited to get the opportunity to be a part of the growth.”
