Complex Anatomy
By Ja'Neil Humphrey ’25
This illustration is a rendered depiction of the facial nerve’s complex anatomy and its relationship to surrounding structures within the parotid region. The composition highlights the branching pattern of the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII) as it traverses the parotid gland and fans out across the face and facial layers to innervate muscles of facial expression. Transparent overlays and vivid color contrasts bring depth to the underlying skeletal framework, musculature, vasculature, and glandular tissue, while maintaining a clear focus on the nerve pathways. The careful dissection-style perspective allows for educational insight into the surgical planes relevant to parotidectomy, facial trauma repair, and nerve preservation in reconstructive procedures. This illustration is a visual testament to the elegant intricacy of human anatomy—where function and form meet in harmony.
