In fall 2025, a small cohort of students will be accepted into a new two-year degree program, Master of Science (MS) in Genetic Counseling, to provide graduates of the program with the skills and values to thrive in clinical genetics and genomics.

Subhadra Ramanathan, MS, MSc, CGC, assistant professor of pediatrics in the genetic division, will also serve as the program director. She has been on the faculty since 2014.

According to the National Society of Genetic Counselors, the profession has doubled in the last decade and is expected to double again in the next ten years, with over 10,000 certified genetic counselors projected by 2030.

The program is in-person and is currently one of only four in Southern California to be accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC).

School of Medicine News is developed by Hillary Angel, senior communications specialist at the Loma Linda School of Medicine.
