OR Humberto Faraco ’91, a former boarder, recently visited the school during a trip to Leicester to visit friends. Coming all the way from his current residence in Paris, where he has been living for the past 24 years, Humberto was eager to see the campus once again, with a particular interest in revisiting his old boarding room.

Greeted by Mrs. Louise Liston, Development Manager, and Miss Amie Newell, Boarding Recruitment Manager, he was guided around the campus to see new and updated areas of the College as well as many memorable spaces where memories came flooding back. During the tour, Humberto had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jose Estevez, the resident Boy’s Housemaster, who took time out of his busy schedule to show him some of the current boarding rooms. Being a native of Mexico, Humberto enjoyed a fluid conversation in Spanish with Mr. Estevez, and even offered to extend his support by facilitating introductions during Mr. Estevez’s planned recruitment trips to Mexico, Chile, and Peru this year. Introductions were also made enroute to Matron of Boys boarding, Mrs Liz Riley, who was coincidentally working in the kitchens at the tender age of 16 at the same time Humberto would have been here – they reminisced about the best food which was of course Pizza night! And finally, whilst touring the areas which would have been dormitories at the time, we stopped in to speak to one of our Modern Foreign Languages teachers, and Humberto expertly exchanged conversations in French extending an offer support with any future trips to Paris.

Realising how much of a positive influence Ratcliffe had on him at such a young age, Humberto has a keen interest in re-connecting with the Ratcliffe community and generously offered his support at future alumni events in Madrid or Paris. Humberto commented that “I had visited Ratcliffe before, but this was the best visit I’ve had. The three of you were very helpful and made me remember all the good times I had in this wonderful school.”

Visit – 14th June 2024
