Highlights from the Annual Black Tie London Dinner at Ratcliffe College
The esteemed annual Black-Tie London Dinner, held on Friday, March 15th, at the enchanting setting of The Crypt at St Etheldreda’s provided a fitting backdrop for an evening dedicated to celebrating shared experiences and cherished memories of Ratcliffe College.
The event commenced with Mass, celebrated by honourable guest Fr Anthony Meredith (57), whose presence, having flown in from Rome for the occasion, added a special significance to the evening’s proceedings.
The formal yet lively atmosphere of the event was accentuated by traditional speeches, delivered by distinguished alumni. A big thank you to Old Ratcliffian, Steve Clark (79) and Past President, Ben Jackson (88) (stepping in admirably to deliver President Dan Amies (10) speech at the last minute due to his absence.) The speech recounted the number of Old Ratcliffians who have supported the community and Ratcliffie College, echoing the spirit of ‘giving back’ and demonstrating a commitment to upholding the rich legacy of Ratcliffe College.
The Headmaster Jon Reddin’s address reminded everyone that each individual present brought with them a unique tapestry of experiences and stories from their time at Ratcliffe. However, amidst the diversity of recollections, a common thread emerged, the enduring values instilled by Ratcliffe’s founder, Blessed Antonio Rosmini. These values, centred on fostering independence of thought and nurturing creativity, which continues to resonate deeply within the Ratcliffian community today.
The event saw the presence of both familiar faces and newcomers, all of whom contributed to the evening’s success. The Bleeding Heart Restaurant’s exemplary service and delicious cuisine added to the overall ambiance, and a special mention of thanks to the London Club for their continued support in subsidising ticket costs keeping the costs to a very reasonable level.
This year’s dinner also served as an opportunity to share with ORs the recent developments and fundraising efforts taking place at the College, focusing on the Emery Library and the Gift of Education Bursary appeals. Attendees were encouraged to consider how they might support these initiatives, with the Emery Library appeal offering a unique opportunity for donors to have their family names engraved within the library, commemorating their association with Ratcliffe College.
Louise’s forthcoming communications will provide further details on how individuals can contribute to our current projects. Those interested in making a contribution are encouraged to visit www.ratcliffecollege.com/library-appeal or www.ratcliffecollege.com/bursary to learn more about and support these important initiatives.
As the evening drew to a close, attendees departed with a renewed sense of community spirit, updated on the continued success of Ratcliffe and its mission, and how the leadership is committed to ensure the College thrives well into the future. If you haven’t attended this magical annual dinner yet, keep an eye out for the date next year, as we strive to retain the value and affordability of such a fabulous Ratcliffe tradition.
